Please join the Harvard Club of Chicago and Harvard Alumni for Global Women's Empowerment as the the Harvard Alumni Association honors Julie Gage Palmer 'AB 84 and five other outstanding Harvard Alumni for their contributions to the Harvard Alumni Community. The HAA Alumni Award is presented annually to alumni who have made substantial contributions to the alumni community through their volunteer service work.
Julie has been a foundational director of both Harvard Alumni for Global Women's Empowerment and the Harvard Club of Chicago. As co-founder of Harvard GlobalWE, Julie envisioned a SIG focused on educating alumni about human rights issues impacting women and girls worldwide. Today, Harvard GlobalWE has more than 1,000 members with 2,000 participating in its programs globally. Julie is also director of the Harvard GlobalWE Essay Contest, now being delivered in ten countries around the world. Her passion and dedicated service have given voice to an untold number of women and girls globally who struggle for rights including basic education, healthcare and freedom from violence.
As a longstanding Harvard Club of Chicago Director and HCC Schools Committee Co-Chair, Julie has brought her work ethic and enthusiasm to Harvard in overseeing the interviewing of thousands of Chicago-area Harvard College candidates per year. She has cultivated a strong group of alumni interviewers who may not otherwise have engaged with the Club, providing local alumni with an opportunity for meaningful service to Harvard through interviewing and high school liaison work. Due to its breadth of work and its positive, community-building culture, the HCC Schools Committee continues to be heralded by the HAA as a model for other Harvard Clubs.
On the HAA level, Julie was an HAA Elected Director and is a current member of the HAA Nominating Committee as well as the HAA Schools & Scholarship Committee. Her work in Chicago, Cambridge, and globally has earned her the well deserved honor of being one of six recognized by the Harvard Alumni Association for her exceptional work in service and dedication to Harvard alumni.
