A Guided Tour of the New Rush University Medical Center

Led by Ralph Johnson, MAR '73

The new Rush Hospital has functional logic due to meetings with doctors, nurses and Rush staff and it is said to be a major success as a work of architecture and urban design. Further, its operating rooms use state-of-the art technology. The ER is said to be ‘ready for the worst’ as it was designed to be ready if terror strikes Chicago resulting in mass casualties. The bed tower is clean-lined modernism and there is an office building plus convenient parking.

The architect is Harvard trained Ralph Johnson, MAR '73. He is a design principal and board member of Perkins & Will, a firm he joined over 30 years ago. Johnson’s buildings have been celebrated with over 30 design awards, including five national Honor Awards and more than two dozen Regional Honor Awards from the American Institute of Architects.

Rush Hospital is a major addition to Chicago’s list of prominent buildings and the tour will be fascinating.

Please make your reservations early as tour spaces are limited. Reservations will be held at the door.

Location Notes: Meet promptly in the hospital lobby (Entry Pavilion) on the ground level; parking lot adjoins the building; 1620 W. Harrison St., Chicago
