University of Chicago Divinity School Dean, Margaret M. Mitchell recommends this book, saying “In this book that deftly combines historiography, journalism and family memoir, Leslie Maitland evocatively traces the story of her own mother’s romance — severed in 1942 Marseille by the war and the family’s flight from the Holocaust — and the lives it intersected and reunited years later.”
Leslie Maitland is an award-winning former New York Times investigative reporter and national correspondent who covered the Justice Department. She appears regularly on the Diane Rehm Show on NPR to discuss literature. In addition to Harvard Divinity School, she is also a graduate of the University of Chicago.
The Seminary Co-op Bookstore is located in its new space at 5751 S. Woodlawn Avenue, a building whose renovation is the result of architectural work by Stanley Tigerman and and our past President, Margaret McCurry LF '87.
