On Thursday, September 20, join The Harvard Club of Chicago and the Harvard Black Alumni Society for a Dialogue with Karen Freeman-Wilson, AB '82, JD '85, Mayor of Gary, Indiana with an introduction by Adela Cepeda, AB '80

Karen Freeman-Wilson was elected Mayor of Gary, Indiana in November, 2011. She is the first woman to lead the steel city and the first African-American female Mayor in the State of Indiana.

A graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, the Mayor’s vitae is long and distinguished. She is the immediate past CEO of The National Association of Drug Court Professionals. Following her tenure, the number of drug courts in the U.S. doubled to 1,700. She served as Indiana Attorney General and had the honor of addressing the 2000 National Democratic Convention in Los Angeles. Her contributions have been acknowledged by U.S. Drug Czars, Indiana Governors, and Supreme Court Justices.

Despite her breadth of travel and influence throughout the United States, Freeman-Wilson’s loyalty and commitment to her home city has never waivered.

Adela Cepeda, AB '80 and a long time friend of the speaker, is a finance specialist and also is active in the Harvard Club of Chicago and in many civic activities.

This is a unique and truly exciting program and we hope you will attend.
