We are thrilled that Anthony Freud’s first Chicago appearance outside a Lyric Opera program will be at our Club! The dynamic new Lyric Opera head assumed the reins of this distinguished house on October 1. As head of the Houston Grand Opera (2006-2011) and the Welsh National Opera (1994-2005), he achieved acclaim for artistic success and vision while also generating dramatic increases in attendance and becoming an artistic hero to many in the community. How will he translate these successes to Chicago? Come hear about his early impressions and plans.
Born and raised in London by his Hungarian refugee parents, he trained as an attorney but has said he knew at age 14 he wanted to run an opera company. He is the only person to have been chair of both OPERA America and Opera Europa. Mr. Freud will be introduced by Kenneth Pigott JD68, the President and CEO of Lyric’s Board of Directors, who was the chair of the search committee that selected Mr. Freud.
