Widely known as the father of business strategy, HBS Professor Michael Porter is one of the most sought-after business speakers in the world and is the most cited scholar in business academics today.  The Harvard Business School Club of Chicago is thrilled to announce Professor Porter has agreed to a special Chicago speaking engagement on behalf of the HBSCC at a club luncheon on Monday, May 9th at the Standard Club in Chicago.  He will tackle the hot topic of health care and explore strategies for implementing a value-based approach within health care organizations today.

This is a rare opportunity to hear Professor Porter, who rarely does HBS Club events.  Since we anticipate a very strong audience demand that may well exceed our seating capacity, reservations will be on a first come, first served basis.  We urge everyone to PLEASE RESERVE EARLY to assure we can accommodate your attendance at this extraordinary event.

Health care in America is rapidly changing.  The implementation of the Affordable Care Act, an unprecedented increase in consumer-driven health options, and new payment mechanisms have forced health care leaders to reconsider traditional delivery models.  This change requires a fundamental shift in ideology to focus on what matters most: value. In this session, Professor Porter will explore strategies for implementing a value-based care delivery approach within a health care organization in order to combat the growing problem of value and affordability for patients, and discuss innovative solutions to common challenges faced by organizations.

Michael Porter is an economist, researcher, author, advisor, speaker and teacher.  Throughout his career at Harvard Business School, he has brought economic theory and strategy concepts to bear on many of the most challenging problems facing corporations, economies and societies, including market competition and company strategy, economic development, the environment, and health care.  His extensive research is widely recognized in governments, corporations, NGOs, and academic circles around the globe.  His research has received numerous awards, and he is the most cited scholar today in economics and business.  While Michael Porter is, at the core, a scholar, his work has also achieved remarkable acceptance by practitioners across multiple fields.

For further information on Professor Porter, see the web site of the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness.
