The 606 with Stephen Baird
The Story of The 606
Walk along the Bloomingdale Trail
Weegee's Lounge
Date: Sunday, September 13, 2015
Time: 3:00 pm Talk; 4:00 pm Walk
Harvard Club of Chicago members and guests will meet at the McCormick Tribune YMCA at 3 pm, where Steve Baird will share the history of the 606, including the decade-long collaboration between the City of Chicago, the Chicago Park District, the Trust for Public Land, and numerous other community groups.
|
By 4 pm, join the group for a walk along the Bloomingdale Trail, the abandoned rail line successfully transformed into 2.7 miles of multi-use green space. After the walk, share refreshments with fellow walkers at Weegee’s Lounge, an old-school Chicago pub just blocks from the western access point of The 606.
The Trust for Public Land is the nation’s leading organization focused on creating parks and preserving land, especially in cities. The non-profit serves as The 606’s lead private partner, managing community engagement and outreach, fundraising, long-term park planning, communications and other crucial aspects of the project. The Trust for Public Land also leads the coordination between the partners, ensuring that the trail and linked parks stayed on track during the construction phase.
