The Harvard Club of Chicago is privileged to offer a private, guided tour of the famed Chicago Tribune Tower led by our own Board Member and Architecture Critic of the Chicago Tribune, Blair Kamin, NF '13.
Blair will lead our tour of this landmark neo-Gothic skyscrapper at the gateway to the Magnificent Mile. Our 75-minute tour will cover the tower's soaring exterior and such unique features as the fragments of more than 150 famous buildings that are embedded in the tower's base (among them, a piece of Harvard's Massachusetts Hall).
The tour will also examine the building's church-like lobby, which celebrates freedom of the press; the editorial board room, where figures like President Obama, JD '91, have been interviewed; and "The Crown," an outdoor observatory beneath the tower's flying buttresses that provides spectacular skyline views. The tour will begin PROMPTLY at 5:30 p.m. (please arrive and check in to security by 5:15 p.m.; late arrivals will miss the tour).
The tour will proceed rain or shine (please bring an umbrella in the event of rain). Space is limited to the first 40 registrations. Priority will be given to Club members and their guests.
After the completion of the tour interested group members will gather for drinks and double-cheeseburgers (not included in the price) at the Billy Goat Tavern, the fabled newspaper bar on lower Michigan Avenue.
