We are pleased to have Dr. Bing Wang, Associate Professor in Practice of Real Estate and the Built Environment, at the Graduate
School of Design, address the Club on “China Urbanizes: Process and Challenges,” focusing on the recent urban developments in
China.
Dr. Wang is Director / Area Coordinator for the Master of Design (MDes) Real Estate and the Built Environment concentration at the
GSD. She is a core faculty member for Harvard Real Estate Academic Initiative and serves as a faculty member in Harvard's
Executive Eduation programs sponsored by the GSD, Harvard Business School, and the Kennedy School. She has also been a
visiting faculty member at Cambridge University in the United Kingdom.
Her academic research focuses on the interplays between formal representations of a society and its underlying social structure and
economic driving forces. She is on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Sustainable Real Estate, published by the American Real
Estate Society, and of the Journal of Planning Theory and Practice, co-published by Routledge, and the Royal Town Planning Institute
of the UK. Her writings and research are published in academic books and journals, including Planning Ideas and Planning Practices,
Professionalism and Professions, Urbanization in China, Regenerating Older Suburbs, Journal of Real Estate Portfolio Management,
and Urban Land Asia. She is the author of The Architectural Profession of Modern China and co-editor of Prestige Retail: Design and
Development for High-End Market, and Nexus: Field Studies in Real Estate, Planning, and Design.
Professionally, Dr. Wang worked as an investment consultant at Lehman Brothers and is the founding principal of YoungYou
Investments, LLC, a private equity company based in Shanghai focusing on investments in the real estate industry and equity
investments in media production companies.
Her design company, HyperBina Design Group, has undertaken projects including master planning of a 400-acre site surrounding
Dianshan Lake in Shanghai, the value-creation strategies for Yuyuan shopping mall in central Shanghai, a mixed-use project in Tbilisi, Georgia, and was an advisor for the design of temporary structures for Covent Garden in London.
