Global Month of Service

Each year the Harvard Club of Chicago participates in the Harvard Alumni Association's Global Month of Service.

We are excited to announce that Global Month of Service 2012 will also serve as a celebration of Harvard’s 375th Anniversary!

Join fellow Chicago Harvard alumni for the Global Month of Service by volunteering at the Greater Chicago Food Depository or by participating with us at the Wrigley Early Start Run.

Wednesday, April 25th - Greater Chicago Food Depository

The Greater Chicago Food Depository, Chicago’s food bank, is a non-profit food distribution and training center providing food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community. The Food Depository distributes donated and purchased food through a network of 650 pantries, soup kitchens and shelters to 678,000 adults and children in Cook County every year. Last year, the Food Depository distributed 69 million pounds of nonperishable food and fresh produce, dairy products and meat, the equivalent of 145,000 meals every day. The Food Depository’s programs and services for children, older adults and the unemployed and underemployed address the root causes of hunger.

Please join us to volunteer as we help with a Repack Session. The majority of the food that the Food Depository receives needs something to be done with it: repacking bulk product to individual/family size, assembling boxes with assorted food, checking expiration dates, labeling product, gleaning products, etc.

Saturday, April 21st - Wrigley Early Start Run

The Run is sponsored by Prevent Child Abuse America. The organization is focused on changing the way our nation thinks about prevention, emphasizing community activities and public policies that prioritize prevention from the start to make sure child abuse and neglect never occur. They work to ensure the healthy development of children nationwide while recognizing that child development is a building block for community development and economic development.

The activity has two parts: 1) Raising Pledges for the team and yourself as a runner. 2) Participating in the Run on April 21st. We would love people to participate in both, but if people can only come to event that is no problem.
