Dementia is common and to varying degrees affects nearly everyone. Today, an understanding of dementia is a necessity. This program will provide an interactive discussion about dementia. This program should be of interest whether one is professionally involved with those with dementia or simply wish more in depth knowledge of this illness.
The speaker, David A. Bennett, MD, is the Robert C. Borwell Professor of Neurological Sciences and Director of the Rush Alzheimer's Disease Center
(RADC), Rush University Medical Center. He is both an engaging speaker and one of the world’s leading authorities about both the clinical and research aspects of dementia. The RADC is an independent clinical and research entity in the Medical College and includes more than 30 faculty and 150 staff. He is the principal investigator (PI) of the Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Northeastern Regional Center for Alzheimer’s Disease funded by the State of Illinois. He is Principal Investigator and co-Investigator on numerous NIH-funded studies. He directs the only two studies in the world of risk factors for dementia in which all participants are organ donors (brain, spinal cord, nerve and muscle): the Religious Orders Study and the Rush Memory and Aging Project (ROSMAP). Together, the studies have enrolled over 3,600 persons from across the USA.
Dr. Bennett serves on numerous national and international advisory boards and editorial boards. He is currently a member of the National Advisory Council on Aging for the National Institute on Aging. Dr. Bennett was the recipient of the prestigious 2018 Potamkin Prize for Research on Picks, Alzheimer’s Disease, and Related Dementia. He has more than 800 peer-reviewed publications with more than 99,000 citations.
This program is a unique opportunity to learn about a current medical epidemic which unfortunately affects so many at a personal level.
